Can I have gym and pool memberships funded through my NDIS plan?

Here at Aspect Plan Management our participants often come to ask questions about what can be funded through their NDIS plans. Lately, we have been asked about funding memberships such as gyms and pools through the NDIS.

The simple answer to the questions is that gym and pool memberships are not funded through the NDIS.

Why – The NDIS regards these memberships as an everyday expense applicable to all households, not disability specific supports.

So, what will the NDIS fund?

The NDIS would look at funding supports to make these services accessible for people with a disability such as:

  • support workers to attend with you,
  • transport funding to enable you to access these services,
  • personal training directly related to your disability, or
  • supports such as physiotherapy or hydrotherapy.

Each person’s individual needs and circumstances are different so it is always worth discussing your needs with your plan manager, support coordinator, or LAC/Planner to find the best options that can be funded for your personal situation.
