Where do plan management fees come from?

The question we often hear as plan managers is ‘where do your plan management fees come from?’

Your NDIS budget has a specific allocation for extra funds to cover the costs of plan management services through the improved life choices category. If you don’t have that, you can ask your NDIS planner for it. The extra funding allocated to plan management can only be used for that purpose, meaning our fees don’t impact on other budget areas

This means there are no out-of-pocket costs to you becoming plan managed, and the fees charged do not impact funding allocated for your other services.

In addition to being its own line of funding, plan management also includes the following benefits:

Consistent pricing across providers

Regardless of who you choose to be your plan manager, the plan management fees remain the same and are set by the NDIS. This ensures that no providers are undercutting the market or overcharging.

There is a one-off set up fee of $232.35 followed by a monthly fee of $104.45 to cover the costs of assisting and supporting participants with their NDIS budget.

Access to Registered and Non-Registered Providers

Having a plan manager is  the best way to take the stress out of managing your NDIS budget whilst still  maintaining flexibility in your providers. You have further choice and control through plan management compared with agency management with the option to use both registered and non-registered NDIS providers.

Plan management is a financial intermediary, and as a minimum, your plan manager is responsible for:

  • Receiving invoices and checking invoices for compliance with the NDIS guidelines
  • Paying invoices and keeping records for audit purposes
  • Providing monthly statements that summarise expenditure
  • Checking in regularly to discuss any funding questions and plan utilisation

This relieves you of the pressures of self-management with your plan manager being responsible for maintaining and understanding complex bills and paperwork, dealing with billing issues, and lodging payments for invoices.
