Supporting participants during COVID-19
The NDIS has a new temporary measure to further support NDIS participants and reduce their risk of exposure to COVID-19.
Eligible participants who normally have a support worker help with meal preparation, can now pay for a meal preparation and delivery service, instead of paying a support worker to help with these tasks at home.
This is a different way to use current funds in the Core budget, and we will not be adding additional funding to plans without a plan review.
This measure is effective from 10 September 2021 and will be in place until 1 December 2021, when it will be reviewed.
This is available to NDIS participants who:
- currently use some of their Core funding to pay a support worker to help with meal preparation or shopping and
- live in an area with ‘stay at home’ public health orders in place.
This currently includes some suburbs in Sydney, all of Victoria and the ACT.
Participants cannot use NDIS funds to buy food. The NDIS can cover the cost of preparing a meal (labour) and having it delivered.
The claiming conditions for temporary supports and dates and locations are available are in the COVID Addendum on the NDIS website.
