As of 3 October 2024, new NDIS legislation has changed how Sensory Items can be funded. The latest ‘Supports that are not NDIS supports’ guide now states that standard toys and recreational equipment (unless they are modified or adaptive) are no longer classed as NDIS supports. This means you may not be able to claim sensory items through your NDIS funding.
What Does This Mean for You?
If your Allied Health Professional recommends sensory items as part of your disability support, they should provide a letter of how the specific items relate to your disability.
Your Plan Manager can then submit this letter, along with details of your requested purchase to the NDIA for consideration.
How We Can Help
We understand that these changes have caused stress and frustration for many participants and nominees. At Aspect Plan Management, we have been assisting our participants and nominees to navigate these significant changes. We are always looking for ways to help you maintain choice and control over your supports while ensuring they align with NDIA guidelines.
“The only constant is change” is a thought from the ancient Greek philosopher Heraclitus. He emphasized the ever-changing nature of the universe, highlighting that everything is in a constant state of flux. This idea captures the essence of the inevitability of change and the importance of adaptability.
