Sharing Your NDIS Plan: What Providers Really Need to Know
Starting with a new provider is an important step in your NDIS journey. To set things up smoothly, they’ll need some information from your plan – but that doesn’t mean you need to share the whole thing.
Your plan is there to guide your supports, and you’re always in control of what you choose to share.
What providers actually need
In most cases, providers only need the details that relate directly to the service they’ll be delivering. This helps them:
- Confirm the correct NDIS budget category is being used
- Understand your NDIS goals and how they can support you
- Ensure services are delivered in line with your service agreement
Sharing only what’s relevant keeps things simple and protects your privacy.
If you have NDIS plan management in place, your plan manager can also help you understand your funding and guide you on what information to share with providers. You can find out more about NDIS plan management support here.
Before you get started
Before beginning services with any provider, it’s important to be clear on a few key details:
- What the provider is offering
- Which funding category the service will come from
- How much it will cost
- How often the service will be delivered
Always ask for a written and signed Service Agreement. This ensures everyone is on the same page and helps avoid any confusion or unexpected costs later on.
Understanding funding periods
Funding periods can sometimes make things a little more complex. Because of this, some participants choose to set up a new service agreement for each funding period.
This approach can:
- Make it easier to track your spending
- Help you stay within budget
- Reduce the risk of running out of funds
Do you need to share your full plan?
If a provider asks to see your full plan, it’s important to know – you’re not required to share it.
Providers only need information that’s relevant to the support they’re delivering. Full funding details are typically only accessed by your Support Coordinator or Plan Manager.
You can still have open conversations with your providers about budgets and supports without needing to hand over your entire plan.
Your plan, your choice
At the end of the day, it’s your plan, your funding, and your decision.
Sharing the right information helps providers deliver great support – but you should always feel comfortable and in control of what you share.
